3 Tips for Improving Memory

Memory loss is inevitable especially when we grow older. Our brain cells grow weak and inefficient when we age thus, we tend to forget things and have poor memory retention. While this cannot be avoided, there are ways to improve memory and delay brain aging such as the following:

1. Eating the right kinds of food.

There are foods that contain essential nutrients that are beneficial to the brain. Foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids, iron, Vitamin B and K, antioxidants, choline and thiamine all help to promote brain cell performance, enhance memory and develop baby’s brain while they are still in their mother’s womb. Examples of these foods are bell pepper, apples, egg, chocolates, blueberries, salmon and nuts.

2. Make use of brain and memory exercises.

There are a lot of games and exercises that you can integrate in your study to improve brain performance and memory retention. Examples of these are puzzles and memory games that you can commonly download from your mobile phone.

3. Create a strategy that will help you remember better.

There are a lot of tricks that you can use to enhance your memory and studying. Using mnemonics is a classic example. You create a short-cut or acronym of words or concepts that you need to remember. Using a mnemonic will help you memorize effectively as you do not need to remember everything.

Outlining your lessons will also help you memorize with ease. Make a study plan and create an outline of all your lessons that the exam will cover. This will make you remember easily.

You can also make use of flashcards or index cards for the concepts that you need to memorize. Do this after you have outlined your lessons and see the results when your teacher gives out the exam results.
